The Aged Buttons
To My Grandmother’s Memory
Memories are like the aged buttons of old garments—small, enduring fragments of something once whole. Garments may tear, fade, or be lost to time, but the buttons linger, silent witnesses to the stories they held together.
Human life, too, follows this pattern: we age, we pass on, but the memories we leave behind remain, like the buttons missing from garments no longer worn.
This series was born from the accumulation of memories in my mind—a treasure chest of my mother’s old buttons, photographs of family, and images of strangers I will never know. These aged buttons, once toys in a child’s hands, now evoke the faces of those I have loved: family members who have grown old or left this world. Each button holds a story; each thread, a symbol of life’s intricate, uncertain destiny.
To my grandmother, whose love and legacy are stitched into the fabric of my being—this is for you.
