Repetition deceives us like nothing and no one does. Repetition of any scene, sound and event acts like a layer of invisible dust which covers it all and causes us feel not like the first time we experienced. It feels like we get trapped and vigorously seek the new which can grab our attention so that we could escape from the trap and breathe again.
When night comes, we are sure about the sunset tomorrow without doubt, we even do not think about it, why? Because it has always been repeated. But repetition is impossible since thousands of reasons affect us in our understanding of everything happens around us, therefore nothing is experiences exactly the same as the previous time it happened.
Arbi Keshishian’s artworks praise distance and repetition. The figures behind the tables are repeated again and again and turn into the unconscious of the canvas, brush and pigments. Here the wondering moment comes by which neither does it have restlessness of hope, nor the anxiety of discovery and the grief of the past. This exhibition is record of repetition and as Soren Kierkegaard names it as “Reverse Memories”.
